El “gap” generacional (o un inminente enfrentamiento)

…aprovechando que en el “thread” anterior hablábamos precisamente de las diferencias conceptuales entre generaciones, quería dejarles unos fragmentos de un artículo muy interesante que salió hace unas semanas en relación a la aparición del grupo The Rolling Stones en el festival de Glastonbury en Inglaterra y respecto de la supremacía cultural de los Boomers.
La editorial, bastante crítica, se pregunta por la prevalencia de estas figuras y habla de la falta de creatividad e inspiración de las atontadas nuevas generaciones…
“The Stones at Glastonbury confirms how the 20th-century babies born between, say, the early 40s and the early 60s, the baby boomers, remain in control of the pop culture they invented and reinvented between the late 50s and the late 70s, even as the record industry and traditional media, business and television approach extinction. The boomers have turned out to be like cockroaches surviving all sorts of cultural catastrophes and even their own apparently allotted life span.”
Así, se plantea un panorama en el que ya sea por el encandilamiento producido por la generación Boomer, o simplemente por el estancamiento intelectual y la falta de coraje de los más jóvenes, la posibilidad de imaginar algún movimiento contracultural hoy parece casi imposible.
“…the current generation, unlike the boomers, have no need to strain forward and chase new forms of freedom that react against previous stultifying values. They are trapped inside a world of their parents’ making but, unlike the stale, broken world the boomers inherited, this one supplies them with purpose-built, easily accessed pleasure and escape. It numbs any appetite to develop new ways of opposing the system, of inventing a disobedient internet-era counterculture that would make the old counterculture look as quaint and wasted as it actually is.”
Para rematar esta lectura de la situación con grandes reminiscencias a cuestiones discutidas en este mismo foro, se remata planteando que los Boomers están de alguna manera “bloqueando” la posibilidad de que la gente joven “genere espacios innovadores y disruptivos en la cultura”.
Mientras tanto del otro lado del océano, en los EEUU otro artículo da cuenta del aspecto más pragmático del asunto: nunca el “gap” económico entre generaciones fue tan grande…

Habrá que ver si el hilo se corta por lo más fino o si de a poco se comienza a vislumbrar un espíritu más crítico en lo subyacente… aunque al paso que vamos, como dice el periodista de la primera nota cuando “hombres viejos tocan música de jóvenes y los jóvenes tocan música vieja”, quizás tengamos que esperar un buen rato más.
